Patrenia Butler-Turner disappeared in 2013 was just 40 years of age when she was last seen on January 17, 2013. believed to be getting in to a red pick up truck in East St Louis. She was reportedly wearing blond braids, a leather jacket with lamb fur around the collar, and a cross necklace. She had four children.
In December 2022, police were called for skeletal remains that were located in a wooded area in Pontoon Beach, Madison County, Illinois, off Illinois 111. DNA testing of her family members confirmed her identification.
February 2, 2023, Madison County State Attorney's Office announced the confirmation that Patrenia's remains were located, and confirmed to be hers. They confirmed that she was murdered. Additionally, they reported that two arrests in Patrenia's murder were made. Roger Sutton Jr, 55 is charged with strangling and beating her to her death. He was already serving time in prison at the time the charges were brought, and is being housed at the Centralia Correctional Center for possession of methamphetamine. He was 12 days away from being released. He is now being transferred to the Madison County Jail.
Sutton's previous charges include convictions for residential burglary, battery and unlawful restraint. In 2015 he was charged with domestic battery after a woman reported that he choked her, threw her on a couch and said he was going to kill her. An order of protection was filed in that incident. Charges were later dropped.
His nephew, Nathan Beyer, 32, was also charged with one count of concealment of a homicide, and is accused of helping his uncle hide Patrenia's body.
Pontoon Beach Police Department has requested that anyone having any information on Patrenia's disappearance or death, to call the department at 618-931-5100.
