Four year old Codi Bigsby was reported missing from Hampton, Virginia by his father on January 31, 2022 where he was last seen at the Buckroe Point Apartment Townhomes at 2:00 a.m. wearing a black outfit and Spider-Man sandals. He reported Codi's disappearance after 9:00 a.m. when he said he realized Codi was missing.
Codi's father is incarcerated at the Hampton Roads Regional Jail and is the only person of interest in Codi's disappearance. His currently charged with seven counts of felony child neglect, which he admitted that he left his young kids between the ages of two and five, home alone back in December 2021. Six days later he reported Codi missing.,
Searches have been conducted at the Buckroe Pointe and Foxhill area and began immediately by law enforcement. It seems as though the father's statements were questioned, and it was not immediately known when Codi was seen by anyone prior.
As with many children's disappearances, the Amber Alert was not used for Codi as the circumstances 'did not meet the criteria'.
Records show that in 2018 Cori had allegations against him for abuse to Codi's mother, reporting that he bit, choked and threatened to kill her. She failed to appear in court multiple times.
February 3, 2022 Forensics collected items from the residence on the 100 block of Ranalet Drive.. No information was released.
February 12, 2022, neighbors reported a jacket near the water behind the apartment complex where the father lived, and was believed to be a jacket the size of a young boy or a toddler. The police did collect the jacket but it has not been confirmed if it has anything to do with Codi.
Codi's mother released a statement “At this present time, I do not wish to take part in any telephone, television or social media interviews. My reluctance is based on the upcoming trial and the questions asked are questions that will be addressed in court. In addition, I have been advised by legal counsel not to address the public. However, I would like to speak to the support of the community. I sincerely appreciate all the volunteers, rescue workers, police, FBI, news reporters, the community at large, family, friends, and everyone who is showing love and support for Codi. It truly warms my heart. I am praying for the safe return of my baby boy, Codi. I hope the public and the community understand and respect my position during this tragic time.”
Currently, Bigsby's other children are in foster care. He continues waiting behind bars for court. His bond has been denied more than once. Bigsby's lawyer says she is going to try again to get him released on bond and ask for a change in venue.
The police have stated they do not believe Cori wandered off or was abducted. They continue to seek any additional information regarding anyone's last sightings of Codi.
