Tuesday, May 12, 2020 about 7:30 P.M. a call for first responders came in for a shooting on Market Street in Venice, Illinois. Kenneth Stanley Jr was shot with two other men who were also injured in the same vehicle.
Kenneth was taken to Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City where he was pronounced dead. Kenneth, 30, died of a gunshot wound to the back of the head. The Illinois State Police were called to assist the Venice Police Department in his death investigation.
The other two men in the vehicle with Kenneth were also injured caused by the shooting. No other information on them have yet been publicly released.
Authorities believe that Kenneth was sitting in a vehicle with two men when Gerrin Massie allegedly fired 15 shots at the vehicle. Massie has been charged with first degree murder and two counts of attempted first degree murder. He's facing 45 years to life. His bond is at $2 Million.
Also charged is Tahjae Simms, 21 with obstruction of justice for giving false information to the Illinois State Police Detectives. She was held on a $200,000 bond.
Court records show that the vehicle Kenneth was in was at a standstill while Massie was on foot when he allegedly walked up and began shooting.
The case is being prosecuted in Madison County, Illinois.
Our deepest condolences to Kenneth's family and loved ones.
