Shanquilla S Garvey is accused of brutally beating her 9 month old biological daughter, Cherish Lynn Freeman to her death. Her history with DCFS was not short lived prior to Cherish's death.
It was reported that Shanquilla took her baby and threw her into a dresser, and onto the floor at the Bel-Air Motel, 1103 Plainfield Road in Joliet where they were living at the time of her death. A call came in to dispatch reporting a child not breathing. Cherish was sent to Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet for treatment, but was later airlifted to Advocate Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn where she died of the physical abuse.
Cherish died on Christmas Eve.
Her injuries included two skull fractures and bleeding in the brain, with a prior broken collarbone injury. The cause of death was blunt-force trauma from an assault.
Prior DCFS allegations throughout her five children's lives were a result of being listed as 'unfounded'.

Shanquilla remains in the Joliet County Jail since then, awaiting trial on no bond. The Jury Trial has been set for May 1, 2023 at 9:30 a.m.
